Tomorrow, Open Arms’ CEO Leah Hebert Welles invites our entire community to a Virtual Town Hall meeting about our new St. Paul kitchen and Campus. Join us at 5:30pm on ZOOM. Leah will do her best to answer every question you have about the new location, how it will work, what will change and what won't! We want to hear from you! We welcome your questions, comments, perspectives, and feedback during this conversation. Click the link in our bio to access the zoom.
November is Native American Heritage Month. Open Arms sits on Dakhóta (and near Ojibwe) homeland in the East Philips neighborhood of Minneapolis and is located a few short blocks from the Little Earth of United Tribes community–home to nearly 1,000 people from 38 different tribal affiliations. Little Earth is an American Indian community designed to provide its residents with the skills and experience to assist on their journeys toward economic stability and self-determination. Minneapolis is also where the American Indian Movement was founded out of concerns about poverty, racism, policing, and housing.

We are proud to serve our Native clients and include staff and volunteers who identify as Indigenous in our Open Arms family. As an organization that cares deeply about its community, Open Arms is committed to supporting our Native neighbors in Minneapolis and across Minnesota.

November is National COPD Awareness Month. COPD stands for Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease and refers to a group of diseases that cause airflow blockage and breathing-related problems including emphysema and chronic bronchitis according to the CDC. COPD makes it more difficult to breathe and affects over 16 million Americans. During #COPDMonth, take a moment to learn about this serious lung condition. It can be managed with healthy lifestyle changes, pulmonary rehab, and medications. Open Arms is proud to serve #medicallytailoredmeals to people diagnosed with COPD.
Today is Transgender Day of Remembrance, a day to honor the memory of those who lost their lives in acts of anti-transgender violence. Open Arms is proud to be a place where people come as themselves and meet people from different walks of life. We strive to be a safe and supportive space for transgender and gender nonconforming people. Nourishing our neighbors with life threatening illnesses takes a community and that includes EVERYONE in the community.
Happy #FamilyVolunteerDay! Did you know that you can bring your whole family on a delivery route? It’s a great way to spend quality time with your loved ones and get an extra hand with those bags as you deliver meals to clients. Anyone who is at least 6 years old can deliver with an adult driver. Make your next delivery a fun family outing!
Thank you so much for stepping up and giving to the max! Over the course of the day, we raised more than $46,000. This incredible outpouring of love from all of you will support the preparation and delivery of more than 5,400 medically tailored, made-from-scratch meals for our neighbors across the state of Minnesota! #GTMD2022 #FoodIsMedicine

Today is #GiveToTheMaxDay, a statewide day of giving to support nonprofits providing critical services for our neighbors and community. This year, we aim to raise $25,000 to support the preparation and delivery of medically tailored meals for families living across Minnesota. We believe that food is medicine and that people who are sick should not be without nutritious food. Your support ensures that Open Arms can prepare and deliver meals to the front doors of our clients throughout Minnesota! In addition, your donation helps us operate our five Open Farms urban gardens and lets us say “yes, there is room for one more at our table” as we continue to expand our services to additional Minnesotans living with life threatening illnesses. All donations made through our Give to the Max Day page (link in bio) will be eligible for the dollar-for-dollar match thanks to an anonymous donor. We hope you will consider “giving to the max” and helping Open Arms fully fund a year’s worth of meals for a family of four through this wonderful, Minnesotan giving tradition!
NOSH, our young professionals group, is hosting a Give To The Max fundraiser at @sociablecider tomorrow, Nov 17 at 5:30pm to support Turkey Drive! Donate at the door to be entered into a raffle drawing for prizes. You can also enjoy chips and salsa as well our famous cookies straight from the Open Arms bakery! See you there!
Today we celebrate Medically Tailored Meals Action Day! What is a #medicallytailoredmeal? It’s a meal approved by a registered dietitian, and is designed to improve health outcomes, lower cost of care, and increase patient satisfaction. We believe that food is medicine, which is why we make sure our clients are receiving meals that best meet their dietary needs! #MTMActionDay #FoodIsMedicine
