Drive With Open Arms: Flexible Volunteer Delivery Routes

Lets Get On The Road!

Interested in a flexible volunteer opportunity that makes a direct impact in your community? Consider driving a volunteer delivery route with Open Arms of Minnesota!

Open Arms prepares and delivers medically tailored meals, at no cost, to critically ill Minnesotans and their loved ones. Since 1986, our community of volunteers has helped bring nourishing meals and connection to clients across the Twin Cities and beyond.

Our work is volunteer-driven… Literally! Each weekday, volunteer drivers help deliver meals to clients in Minneapolis, Saint Paul, and surrounding communities. Routes are organized by neighborhood or city and typically include 4–8 stops. Drivers pick up meals from one of our Open Arms locations in the morning, usually between 10:45 and 11:30 am, and most delivery shifts take about 1 to 2 hours.

During deliveries, drivers use the Onfleet Driver app to access route information, communicate securely with clients, and update delivery status in real time. On your first day, a member of our Open Arms team will help you get connected to the app, answer questions, and make sure you feel ready before leaving the parking lot. And once you are on the road, our Delivery Desk team is always available for support.

Getting started is simple! New volunteers create an account through VolunteerHub and complete a background check before driving, since this role includes direct interaction with clients. Once those steps are complete, you can sign up for delivery shifts that work with your schedule.

Spouses, friends, kids, and co-pilots are welcome to join you on deliveries, and complimentary refreshments are available during pickup.

Please note that delivery routes are picked up from our Minneapolis Kitchen Monday through Wednesday and from our St. Paul Kitchen Thursday through Friday.

Ready to get behind the wheel? To join us visit https://www.openarmsmn.org/volunteer/volunteer-individuals/ and create your volunteer account. Questions can be sent to [email protected], and our team will be happy to help.

We hope to see you out in the parking lot soon! We truly could not do this work without volunteers like YOU!

In Our Kitchen

Prepare, portion, and package food. No culinary skills necessary! This is a great setting to hang out with other volunteers, pick up tips and tricks from our kitchen staff, and be enveloped in amazing kitchen smells.

Interact with clients and see the impact of our work by delivering meals to our clients’ doors. Friends and kids of all ages welcome!

At Out Farms

Grow tasty veggies for our kitchen and meet new people. From April to November, help us plant, prune, weed, and harvest at our multiple urban gardens throughout Minneapolis and St. Paul.

In the Office

Be the smiling face of Open Arms as a receptionist, as you greet visitors and callers at our reception desk. We also need administrative volunteers for various projects like supporting special events, mapping client routes, and maintaining our databases.
