Faith
Community Connections
The work of Open Arms is made possible through the support
of our faith community partners. These mutually beneficial relationships
are deliberately crafted together with you to fit the unique interests
of your community. The diverse ways that Open Arms works together with
communities of faith include:
Raising Awareness
Speakers Available
We would be honored to join you for a service, adult education hour
or special event to share the work of Open Arms with your community.
Our staff will effectively address the current state of local & international
HIV/AIDS, discuss how Open Arms is responding to this pandemic and share
about our expansion to deliver meals to people living with Breast Cancer,
MS and ALS.
Bulletin and Newsletter Announcements
Open Arms has a variety of informational pieces, varying in length,
that are a wonderful addition to a faith community bulletin or newsletter.
This is an effective way to update your community on the local state
of HIV/AIDS in the Twin Cites, raise awareness about Open Arms and invite
people to join Open Arms at fundraising events throughout the year.
Volunteer Opportunities
Adopt-A-Route
Communities of faith can adopt Open Arms meal delivery routes once a
month, every other week or every week. Volunteer drivers deliver meals
Monday through Friday between 11am-1pm. A typical route consists of
3-7 stops and takes about an hour. Individual volunteers within your
faith community rotate delivery dates. At Open Arms, we know that a
member of your community will arrive to deliver meals each time your
faith community is on our schedule.
Food Drives
Throughout the year, there are a variety of occasions when we deliver
non-perishable food along with our prepared meals to clients of Open
Arms. Food drives facilitated by community partners often provide these
much needed non-perishable food items. Open Arms staff can provide our
non-perishable wish list if you are interested in coordinating a food
drive in your faith community.
Food Parcels
Open Arms has a partnership with a community center in Guguletu, South
Africa. Twice a year, we work with our South African partner to distribute
food parcels to people living with HIV/AIDS in their community. Food
parcels are sponsored for $40 by individuals and families in around
the Twin Cities, and feed a family of four for approximately one month.
We would be honored to share with your faith community about how they
can help to deliver food - and hope - to people living with HIV/AIDS
around the world.
