Biography:

Executive Director Kevin Winge has over 20 years of experience in the nonprofit sector. He served as Executive Director of Open Arms from 1997 until 2002, when he was named a Bush Foundation Leadership Fellow and left the organization to obtain a master’s degree in public administration from the Harvard Kennedy School. He then continued his fellowship in South Africa, establishing programs for people living with HIV/AIDS there. Upon completion of his Bush Fellowship program, Kevin returned to his former position at Open Arms in 2004 and his first book, Never Give Up: Vignettes from Sub-Saharan Africa in the Age of AIDS, was published in 2006. He is a board member, and former board chair, of the Association of Nutrition Services Agencies (ANSA) and he travels and speaks extensively on the subject of HIV/AIDS and the national and international disparities in access to health care. He makes frequent trips to South Africa where he continues work to educate and bring hope to people living with HIV/AIDS.

Deputy Director Jennifer Van Wyk assists the Executive Director with development activities and the operation of Open Arms. She is an active member of the Capital Campaign Committee, Interiors Committee, Corporate Partnership Committee, and works closely with all aspects of the agency’s Board of Directors. Jennifer plans, implements, and leads corporate and individual fundraising and manages community relations efforts. In addition, she implements, leads and facilitates business plans to create and monitor all special events, paying close attention to nonprofit operating standards. Jennifer brings nonprofit experience from her work with the American Heart Association and the University of Minnesota Foundation. She graduated from the University of Minnesota with a degree in English.
