At Open Arms we prepare our clients’ meals in our own kitchen, which operates seven days a week. Under the direction of our Food Services Director and Registered Dietitian, our staff and volunteers cook a variety of specialized menus designed to be as appealing and delicious as they are healthy. Our nutrition goals are to provide 75% of a person’s Recommended Dietary Allowance (RDA) of vitamins and minerals and at least 1,350 calories, while keeping fat content to less than 30% of total calories. In addition to meals, we offer food safety education and kits, nutrition counseling, nutrition supplements such as Ensure, and Nausea Care Packs with items such as ginger ale and saltine crackers that can help calm an upset stomach.
There are no fees for any of Open Arms' services.
The majority of our clients recieve a weekly delivery of frozen meals with enough food for approximately five days, including lunches, dinners, breakfast items, and snacks. Volunteers deliver meals between 11am and 1pm, Monday to Friday. With the help of Client Services staff, each client is able to choose a delivery day so their food will arrive on the same day each week. For clients without freezer or storage space, or who may have special needs, we can provide daily deliveries.
Open Arms currently offers several entrée options which have been tailored to meet the various needs of our clients' illnesses. Most special dietary needs can be accommodated, and meals may also be requested for the dependent children or affected caregivers of our clients.
