Kids MenuFrom the very beginning of our service, Open Arms has provided meals for our clients’ affected caregivers and children. However, when everyone in the household receives the same meal, many of the foods aren’t appealing to children. We want our meals to be nutritious and meal-time to be enjoyable for everyone. By providing nutritious meals that children like, Open Arms helps to reduce the stress that parents who are ill often experience when trying to prepare meals for themselves and their families.

To ensure that our clients’ children also receive appropriate nutrition, Open Arms has developed “kid-friendly” meals such as turkey dogs, pizza roll-ups, and chicken fingers. Recognizing the growing concern over childhood obesity, we prepare these foods by baking them instead of frying and without adding any additional fat or sugar. Like the adult menus, the children’s meals offer a balance of protein, fruit, and vegetables and provide 75% of the RDA of vitamins and minerals.

Kid Friendly Entrees sample contents
  • BBQ chicken sammies, french fries and broccoli
  • Ham and potato casserole, mashies and suger snap peas
  • Macaroni and cheese, apples and applesauce
  • Cheese quesadillas, diced chicken and carrots
  • Turkey power burgers, baked beans and 4-way vegetables
A special thank you to The Woman’s Club of Minneapolis for supporting Open Arms’ healthy, kid-friendly menus.
