The Zwane Community Center is located in Guguletu, South Africa, a township outside of Cape Town, and provides a myriad of services including HIV/AIDS prevention, care, and support programs; nutrition programs; hospice care; and an after-school study program. Open Arms sponsors daily hot lunches for the 100-plus members of the Center's HIV/AIDS support group and their affected families. Through private donations, Open Arms pays all of the food costs, the cook's salary, transportation to grocery stores, and gas and electricity for the kitchen. At a cost of less than $1.00 per meal we can ensure that someone infected and affected by HIV/AIDS in South Africa doesn't go hungry.
In 2007, Open Arms provided 16,483 meals for people living with HIV/AIDS and their affected family members through this program.
Donations can be made directly to Open Arms of Minnesota, with a memo designating gifts for Africa.
