It started with a glass egg from Tiffany that a friend gave to Bill in 1972. Since then, Bill has collected hundreds and hundreds of eggs which are lovingly arranged in his home. Displays of his favorite red eggs appoint the bedside tables in his bedroom. A wall of shelves, filled with eggs, adorn a wall in his living room. Many of the eggs were painstakingly created by designers. Others were decorated by Bill himself.
Since then, Bill has lived independently, but his health has been up and down. When Bill was asked to be our guest speaker and to turn the first shovel of dirt at our groundbreaking, he wasn’t sure that he would be well enough to do it, but he was determined to try. This was no small feat for someone who just months before was bed-bound.
And Bill did it.
Bill Kimker loves Open Arms.
Bill’s emotional story and the critical role Open Arms has played in his life, had the audience at our groundbreaking in tears. He said that Open Arms had always been there when he needed us, and he wanted to give back. Participating in our groundbreaking ceremony was just the beginning.
The gift of one egg, 36 years ago, has turned into a passion for collecting that has improved the quality of Bill’s life, and brightens the days of all who walk into Bill’s home. Now, Bill wants to share his collection with others to benefit Open Arms.
Bill has donated a selection of his prized egg collection – some of his personal favorites and others that he personally designed – for Open Arms to offer as a special gift for people who want to honor Bill by making a donation to our capital campaign.
Bill loves Open Arms, and the Open Arms family loves Bill. His eggs are symbols of perseverance, kindness, and hope.
To honor Bill, to support Open Arms, and to receive one of Bill's very special eggs as a gift, please consider making a contribution to Bill Kimker's Egg Campaign.
As you might imagine, the quantities are limited and each egg from the collection is unique. Some are hollow, some are solid, some are from chickens, ducks or ostrich and then some are porcelain. Some are handpainted, and some are made from fabric transfers by Bill himself. Best of all, each egg you purchase will come with a special note, straight from Bill. You are welcome to come into the office and pick out your egg from the selection we have, during normal office hours. Otherwise, we are offering to mail our choice of egg (from the size you purchase), with a $4.95 mailing fee, and a 7-10 day delivery time.
