Raising awareness of hunger in our community

Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) is the national food stamp program. During our annual SNAP Challenge, we challenge Minnesotans to eat on $30.25 -- the average weekly allowance for SNAP recipients -- for one week.

More than 520,000 Minnesotans used SNAP between May of 2010 and May of 2011, and that number is rising at an annual rate of 19 percent. With many Open Arms clients facing food insecurity, in addition to chronic and progressive diseases, we hope this annual challenge will help raise awareness and understanding of hunger.

Visit the SNAP Challenge blog to read about the experiences of our 2011 SNAP participants. Thanks to all who participated!
